About
Ruud Jolie has been the lead guitarist of Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation since 2002, though getting there was anything but straightforward. He originally turned the band down twice out of loyalty to alternative rock act Vals Licht, whose single "Het Licht" reached the Dutch top ten. It was only after a gig in Mexico City, where he traveled as a substitute guitarist, that he realized he genuinely wanted to be a permanent member. When the earlier replacement hire fell through, the third call from Within Temptation founder Robert Westerholt finally got a yes. Outside Within Temptation, Jolie runs a solo project called For All We Know, described by Jolie himself as heavy, melodic and guitar oriented without being a shred fest. The debut came out in 2011, and the follow up Take Me Home in 2017 features vocal contributions from Anneke van Giersbergen and Wudstik. He is also part of Maiden uniteD, a project that reimagines Iron Maiden classics as acoustic rearrangements, born from a request by the Dutch Iron Maiden fan club.
