About
Also known as: Sean Carey
S. Carey is best known as the drummer and backing voice in Bon Iver, a job that has earned him two Grammy wins with the band. But his own records are where his layered, quiet folk really shows. His debut solo album, All We Grow, came out in August 2010 and grew out of home recording sessions between Bon Iver tours, where he built songs up one layer at a time and brought in friends for parts he couldn't play himself. That patient, harmony heavy sound has drawn comparisons to Brian Wilson, Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine. His song In the Dirt turned up in the final scenes of both House M.D. and The Good Wife. He has also produced Owen's album The King of Whys and sang backing vocals on a good chunk of Sufjan Stevens' Carrie & Lowell.
