Sadie Jean's breakthrough came the way most things do these days: a TikTok spiral. She co wrote "WYD Now?" with fellow NYU students in October 2021, and the song went viral while she was sitting her final exams. She dropped out to chase the moment, and it paid off. Rod Wave later sampled the track for his 2023 song "2018", landing Jean on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. Her confessional songwriting draws on influences ranging from Phoebe Bridgers and Joni Mitchell to Coldplay and Katy Perry, and her 2023 EP Simple Like 17 leans into that mix hard, exploring breakups and the awkward stretch of growing up. Her debut album Early Twenties Torture followed in 2025, with the single "Nice Knowing You" getting its own music video that same year. People flagged her as a Spring 2024 emerging artist, which feels about right.
