Sam Smith has a knack for turning heartbreak into chart history. Their 2014 debut album In the Lonely Hour, built around the ache of unrequited love, hit number one in the UK and spawned a string of massive singles including Stay with Me, I'm Not the Only One, and Money on My Mind. The album swept four Grammy Awards and became the best selling debut of the 2010s on the UK Albums Chart. From there Smith kept raising the stakes. Writing's on the Wall, the theme for the Bond film Spectre, won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The second album The Thrill of It All debuted at the top of both UK and US charts, with Too Good at Goodbyes hitting number one in the UK and Australia. Then came Unholy with Kim Petras, finally landing Smith their first US number one and a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, ahead of the fourth album Gloria in 2023.
