Sara Bareilles built her reputation on a song she wrote out of pure frustration. 'Love Song', the lead single from her 2007 album Little Voice, was a direct response to pressure from Epic Records to deliver something more commercial. It shot up the Billboard Hot 100 to number four and earned her Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. That blend of sharp wit and piano driven pop became her signature sound, and she went on to sell over three million albums and more than 15 million singles in the US alone. Beyond pop music, Bareilles has made a serious mark on musical theatre. She wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Waitress, earning Tony and Grammy nominations, and the show later transferred to London's West End. Her fifth studio album What's Inside: Songs from Waitress brought those songs to a wider audience. She has also contributed to SpongeBob SquarePants and a Sondheim revival on Broadway, and picked up Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Mary Magdalene in NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. She later starred as Dawn Solano in the musical comedy series Girls5eva.
