Saturnus (DK)

About

Also known as: Assesino

Copenhagen's Saturnus have been shaping the darker end of melodic doom metal since the early 90s, blending death metal weight with gothic atmosphere and lush synthesizer textures. Originally formed under the name Asesino in 1991, they found their true sound after the name change to Saturnus in 1993, going on to release a string of demos and two albums before the millennium. Their third album, Veronika Decides to Die, took its title from the Paulo Coelho novel and arrived in 2006, followed by extensive touring with the likes of Agalloch and Novembers Doom. Saturn in Ascension came in 2012 with legendary producer Flemming Rasmussen at the desk, then the band went quiet for over a decade before returning with The Storm Within in 2023. Recent activity suggests they are still very much at work, with clips of guitarist Indee shaping riffs hinting at material in progress.
