About
Score Jazz Orchestra, also known as SJO, has been running as a project big band in its current form since 1993. It brings together a mix of semi professional musicians and dedicated amateurs who share a genuine passion for contemporary big band music. Rather than operating as a fixed ensemble with a set roster, the orchestra works on a project basis, teaming up with different guest artists for each venture. At the heart of everything is a broad musical palette rooted in jazz and related genres. For one of their concerts, the orchestra collaborated with vocalist Anna Serierse and saxophonist Peter Hermesdorf. Serierse is a graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and has also studied in Copenhagen and Trondheim, picking up Edison awards in the vocal category along the way. Hermesdorf trained in jazz saxophone at the conservatory in Maastricht and has performed across Europe, Africa, South America, China and beyond.
