Few artists have reshaped Latin pop the way Shakira has. Starting out on Sony Music Colombia as a teenager, she built her reputation through Spanish language albums like Pies Descalzos and Dónde Están los Ladrones? before crossing over globally with Laundry Service in 2001, which became the best selling album by a female Latin artist at the time. Her sound is genuinely her own, blending Western rock influences she grew up loving with Middle Eastern textures rooted in her Lebanese heritage, and she has written or co written the vast majority of her material throughout her career. She holds four Grammy Awards and fifteen Latin Grammy Awards, and Billboard named her Top Female Latin Artist of the Decade twice over, covering both the 2000s and 2010s. Her 2024 album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran made her the first woman to top the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart across four different decades. Beyond the music, she has been a visible presence at the FIFA World Cup since 2006 and has used her platform to advocate for children's rights and education through her Barefoot Foundation.
