Sharon Van Etten has built a career on music that feels almost uncomfortably honest, her indie folk and rock songs carrying a weight that keeps listeners coming back. She started out pressing handmade CDs and worked her way through a string of records that grew in scope and ambition, from the spare intimacy of her debut Because I Was in Love to the synth driven shift of Remind Me Tomorrow in 2019. That fifth album marked a real turning point, swapping her guitar focused sound for something moodier and more expansive, drawing on drones, drum machines and synthesizers. Tramp, her third, was produced by the National's Aaron Dessner and brought in a cast of collaborators that reads like an indie rock all star list. By 2022 she had seven studio albums under her belt, including We've Been Going About This All Wrong, and recent videos like Mistakes and a collab with Angel Olsen on Like I Used To show she has stayed sharp and restless. She also found a second lane as an actress, playing Rachel in the Netflix series The OA and appearing in films like Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Her latest record Sharon Van Etten and the Attachment Theory, released in 2025, sees her working with her full backing band.
