SHINING (NO)

About

Shining from Oslo have coined their own term for what they do: blackjazz. It sits somewhere between savage avant garde metal and free blowing jazz, threaded through with electronic textures that bring to mind the industrial weight of Ministry as much as the unhinged complexity of Dillinger Escape Plan or Devin Townsend. The engine at the centre of it all is Jørgen Munkeby, who handles vocals and guitar while also delivering the saxophone work that gives the band its genuinely unusual character. Live, Shining are known as a physically overwhelming experience, and the album Blackjazz Live At The Heavy Water Plant captures exactly that energy.
