About
Also known as: Skidrow
Few bands captured the raw energy of late 80s heavy metal quite like Skid Row. Formed in Toms River, New Jersey by bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave Sabo, they broke through hard with their 1989 debut, a five times platinum record powered by "Youth Gone Wild", "18 and Life" and the ballad "I Remember You", both of the latter cracking the Billboard Hot 100 top 10. Their 1991 follow up Slave to the Grind hit number one on the Billboard 200, a genuine landmark for a hard rock act at the time. The classic lineup, fronted by the explosive Sebastian Bach, had sold 20 million albums worldwide by 1996 before internal tensions tore it apart. After Bach's departure the band kept going through a series of lineup changes, cycling through several vocalists over the years. Their most recent album The Gang's All Here arrived in 2022, their first studio record in 16 years, with Erik Grönwall on vocals. Grönwall later stepped away due to health issues after treatment for leukemia, and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm stepped in for live shows for a period. Through all the turbulence, core members Bolan, Sabo and guitarist Scotti Hill have kept the band moving forward.
