About
Skyzoo built his name on detail. The Brooklyn rapper is a boom bap lyricist who once cut a full EP with producer 9th Wonder in just three days, and that project, Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, landed him his first national spot in XXL's Show & Prove section. From there came the free mixtape Corner Store Classic, a signing to Duck Down Records and Jamla, and his debut album The Salvation in 2009, a very personal record where he mostly handled the vocals himself. Since then he has kept a steady run of albums and team ups, including A Dream Deferred, The Easy Truth with Apollo Brown, and Retropolitan with Pete Rock. He has shared credits with everyone from Jill Scott and Talib Kweli to Black Thought and Dr. Dre, and he runs his own label, First Generation Rich. Videos like Rocket Science and JanSport Strings showed his knack for vivid, New York flavored storytelling.
