Few rappers have left a mark on West Coast hip hop quite like Snoop Dogg. The Long Beach native helped shape G funk and gangsta rap alongside Dr. Dre, first appearing on the 1992 single "Deep Cover" and then all over The Chronic before dropping his own debut, Doggystyle, in 1993. That record landed at number one on the Billboard 200 in its first week, selling over 800,000 copies, and gave the world "What's My Name?" and "Gin and Juice". His signature drawl and melodic flow made him instantly recognizable, and his lyrics tackling drug use and gun violence kept him at the center of debates around censorship and rap. He has kept reinventing himself ever since. His 2004 album R&G spawned "Drop It Like It's Hot" with Pharrell Williams, his first number one on the Billboard Hot 100. He later explored reggae under the alias Snoop Lion, put out a gospel record called Bible of Love, and in 2022 he co headlined the Super Bowl LVI halftime show while also reacquiring Death Row Records. With over 35 million records sold worldwide, he holds a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and seventeen Grammy nominations.
