Few Belgian acts broke into the American charts the way Soulsister did. Jan Leyers and Paul Michiels built their Motown tinged sound around a killer groove, and 'The Way to Your Heart' took it all the way to number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also landing in the top ten across Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. Their debut album 'It Takes Two' shifted over 700,000 copies worldwide, and the pair toured Europe and the United States off the back of it. Over a decade of activity they cycled through a handful of name changes, from The Soul Sisters to SoulSister to Leyers, Michiels and SoulSister, and kept scoring Belgian hits with albums like 'Heat' and 'Simple Rule'. Sting even brought them along as support on his European 'Ten Summoner's Tales' tour. After splitting in 1995 they reunited in 2007, picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 MIAs, and kept releasing music into the early 2020s before announcing a second, final split in 2023.
