About

Few Dutch acts hit as hard in 1980 as Spargo did with "You and Me", which not only topped the charts in the Netherlands but ended up being the best selling record there that entire year, spreading across Europe into Belgium, Germany, Iceland and Sweden. The Amsterdam group's secret weapon was the pairing of singer Lilian Day Jackson, stepdaughter of jazz legend Art Blakey, with keyboardist and vocalist Ellert Driessen, a combination that gave the band its warm, irresistible disco pop sound. Between 1980 and 1982 they stacked up four more top 5 hits in the Netherlands with tracks like "Head Up to the Sky", "One Night Affair" and "Just for You". After going quiet in 1985 the band pulled back together in 1997, recording "Indestructible" and returning to television. One of their more memorable later moments came at the end of 2015, when they played a mini concert at Humberto Tan's Let's Dance event in a sold out Ziggo Dome. Jackson's daughter Jazzi Bobbi later gave "You and Me" a fresh remix that landed in a Vodafone TV advert, proof that the song still has real pull.
