About
Spike Fuck coined his own genre term for a reason. The Melbourne artist describes his sound as smackwave, a blend of late 1980s new wave, late 1970s post punk, and country singer songwriter sensibilities, with Roky Erickson and Scott Walker sitting at the top of his influences list. His debut EP, The Smackwave EP, tackled heroin addiction, heartbreak, and sexual disorientation, and he described it as an impersonation of a washed up middle aged rock star attempting a comeback in the 1960s or 1970s. That combination of dark subject matter and self aware theatrics has defined his work ever since. Signed to Partisan Records in 2019, he re released The Smackwave EP alongside the pop punk leaning single Body by Crystal. After a period away from public life, he returned in 2024 with new music that reflects a deepened engagement with Catholic faith and traditional spirituality, most notably on the singles Other Right Hand of the Lord and Eternity and Time. He also put out Live from Underground, a live recording, in late 2025.
