Alex Cameron built his solo career around a brilliantly weird concept: the persona of a failed entertainer, a guy whose life, as Cameron himself puts it, sits at the intersection of ambition, crippling self doubt and tragedy. The Sydney singer songwriter released his debut album Jumping the Shark for free in 2013, and it quietly gathered a cult following before Secretly Canadian reissued it in 2016 to a much wider audience. His constant sidekick is saxophonist Roy Molloy, billed as his "business partner", who brings a retro, slightly sleazy warmth to the live show. Forced Witness in 2017 pushed further into full band territory, produced by Foxygen's Jonathan Rado, and Cameron even co wrote five tracks on The Killers' album Wonderful Wonderful that same year, with Brandon Flowers returning the favour by appearing on the record. Miami Memory followed in 2019, a more intimate record, and then came Oxy Music in 2022, a fiction driven concept album inspired by the opioid epidemic and Nico Walker's novel Cherry, featuring guest appearances from Sleaford Mods' Jason Williamson.
