Brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario make up The Lemon Twigs, a duo from Hicksville, Long Island who have built a devoted following by mining the melodic richness of 1960s and 1970s rock. Their sound pulls from power pop, glam rock, art rock and jangle pop, drawing comparisons to the Beatles, Big Star and Todd Rundgren. Both brothers sing lead, swap instruments freely and write their own material, which gives their records an unusually elastic quality. Since their commercial debut with Do Hollywood in 2016, they have kept up a steady pace, releasing six studio albums including the wildly ambitious Go to School, a full concept album about a chimpanzee raised as a human. That record featured Rundgren himself, alongside Big Star drummer Jody Stephens. Live, the duo expands into a fuller band, and their festival appearances have ranged from Glastonbury to Lollapalooza to Coachella, where they famously brought Rundgren onstage to cover one of his own classics.
