About
Also known as: 7. Spin Doctors Two Princes, Spin Doctor, Spindoctors, The Spin Doctors
Few bands have had a debut album journey quite like Spin Doctors. Their first studio record, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, came out in 1991 and spent the better part of a year going nowhere, until radio and MTV latched onto "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes" in the summer of 1992. From there it went Triple Platinum by June 1993, eventually shifting ten million copies worldwide and hitting No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Rolling Stone put them on the cover and compared their groove to the Stones and Curtis Mayfield, which tells you a lot about where the New York band was pitching their sound: loose, funky, rooted in rock and blues. The follow up, Turn It Upside Down, sold a million copies and got them onto the Woodstock '94 and Glastonbury stages, though it never matched the first record's commercial explosion. The years after brought lineup shifts and a serious health scare for singer Chris Barron, who lost his voice to a rare vocal cord paralysis and was given a fifty fifty chance of ever singing again. His voice returned, and so did the band, with later albums including Nice Talking to Me in 2005 and If the River Was Whiskey in 2013.
