Few guitarists get ranked among the all time greats by Rolling Stone, but St. Vincent, the project of Annie Clark, landed at number 26 on that list in 2023, and it's easy to hear why. Her sound weaves together art pop, electronics, and indie rock with guitar work that turns distortion into something almost melodic. She started out playing in the Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens' touring band before stepping out on her own with her debut Marry Me in 2007, drawing comparisons to Kate Bush and David Bowie right out of the gate. Since then, she's built one of the more restless catalogs in contemporary rock. Her 2012 collaboration with Talking Heads' David Byrne, Love This Giant, showed her range, while her self titled 2014 album earned album of the year nods from NME, The Guardian, and others. She co wrote Taylor Swift's chart topping "Cruel Summer", produced Sleater Kinney's The Center Won't Hold, and has racked up six Grammy Awards, three of them for Best Alternative Music Album. Her seventh studio album, All Born Screaming, arrived in 2024 and she produced it entirely herself.
