Stephen Stills is one of those rare musicians who managed to be essential to not one but three genuinely influential acts: Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Manassas. His song "For What It's Worth" became one of the defining tracks of the 1960s, and he later wrote much of the debut CSN album while also playing bass, guitar, and keyboards on it. That record sold over four million copies and won the trio a Grammy for Best New Artist. His solo debut, Stephen Stills, pulled off something no other album has matched: it features both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. The single "Love the One You're With" hit number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains his best known solo track. Rolling Stone ranked him among the 100 greatest guitarists of all time, and he holds the distinction of being the first person inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the same night.
