Steven Wilson is probably best known as the driving force behind Porcupine Tree, but his solo career has grown into something equally substantial, with eight studio albums stretching from Insurgentes in 2008 all the way to The Overview in 2025. A self taught composer, producer and multi instrumentalist, he plays guitar, keyboards, bass, autoharp, hammered dulcimer and flute, and engineers his own records. His music moves fluidly across progressive rock, art rock, folk and pop, often shaped by elaborate visuals and quadraphonic sound in concert. Beyond his own projects, Wilson has built a parallel reputation as the go to person for remixing classic rock and pop into new stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos versions, working with catalogues from acts like King Crimson, Yes and Black Sabbath. He has also collaborated directly with artists including Elton John, Opeth and Marillion, and earned six Grammy nominations across his solo work, Porcupine Tree and Storm Corrosion. The Daily Telegraph once called him probably the most successful British artist you have never heard of, which feels about right.
