Stormy, the Moroccan rapper born Yasser El Malih, made a serious statement with his 2024 debut solo album Iceberg. The lead single "Popo" a Brazilian funk inspired rap track shot in Rio de Janeiro became a genuine summer phenomenon, racking up over 45 million YouTube views and 20 million streams. It got big enough that Moroccan telecom giant Inwi turned it into a branded jingle, complete with a cameo from footballer Achraf Hakimi. What sets Stormy apart in the Moroccan scene is his insistence on lyricism at a time when plenty of his peers lean hard into melodic trends. He raps mostly in Moroccan Arabic and French, pulling from afrobeat, trap, drill and Brazilian funk, but the wordplay always comes first. His bars have genuinely seeped into everyday Moroccan slang. In early 2025 he dropped the EP Omega with zero prior announcement, and the surprise release landed well with fans and critics alike.
