About
Also known as: Leather Tuscadero, Susan Kay Quattrocchio, Suzi Quattro, Suzie Quatro, Suzy Quatro, Suzy Quattro
Suzi Quatro carved out a genuinely distinctive place in rock by strapping on a bass guitar and fronting her own band at a time when very few women were doing either. Her run of early 1970s singles, particularly "Can the Can" and "Devil Gate Drive", both hit number one in multiple countries, making her a massive star in Europe and Australia even as her homeland largely ignored her. Songs like "48 Crash" and "The Wild One" kept her on the charts throughout the decade, and she racked up six Bravo Otto awards from the German teen press between 1973 and 1980. Her profile in the US got a boost from a recurring role as Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days, and the duet "Stumblin' In" with Chris Norman of Smokie became her only American top 40 hit. She has reportedly sold over 50 million records worldwide across a catalogue that now stretches to 15 studio albums. Her 2021 collaboration with her son Richard Tuckey, The Devil in Me, was followed by Face to Face in 2023, showing she has no intention of slowing down.
