About
Svartsot have been flying the flag for Danish folk metal since forming in Randers in 2005, blending melodic death metal muscle with medieval instrumentation like Irish whistles, bagpipes and mandolin. Their sound is rooted in the vision of guitarist, composer and lyricist Cristoffer J.S. Frederiksen, who has been the one constant through lineup upheavals that would have finished off most bands. When most of the original lineup walked out in late 2008, Frederiksen rebuilt around fresh talent and kept the musical identity intact, releasing Mulmets Viser through Napalm Records in 2010 to solid critical notices. Their discography now stretches to six studio albums, with Kumbl arriving in 2022 and Peregrinus following in 2025. A lyric video for the track Tarditas, uploaded in 2025, suggests the band is actively pushing the new record. Live, they bring that same dense, folk infused heaviness to the stage, and their reach clearly extends beyond Denmark, given that Arkona's Masha has been spotted playing their material.
