About
Also known as: Solána Imani Rowe
SZA built her reputation on songwriting that feels bracingly personal, and that quality has made her one of the defining voices in contemporary R&B. Born Solána Imani Rowe in St. Louis, she signed to Top Dawg Entertainment in 2013 after her self released EPs caught the label's attention, and her 2017 debut album Ctrl quickly became a critical touchstone. Her range as a collaborator showed early too, with 'All the Stars' alongside Kendrick Lamar earning Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, and 'Kiss Me More' with Doja Cat winning her first Grammy. Her second album SOS (2022) rewrote the record books entirely. It became the first album by a woman to spend 100 weeks in the Billboard 200's top ten, and its single 'Kill Bill' was the third best selling song of 2023. The deluxe reissue Lana followed in 2024, spawning further top ten hits including '30 for 30' with Kendrick Lamar. She has also written songs for Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and others, and in 2024 received the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
