About
Taking Back Sunday built their reputation on the kind of emotionally raw, hook heavy rock that defined the early 2000s emo scene on Long Island. Formed in Amityville, New York in 1999 by guitarist Eddie Reyes and Jesse Lacey, the band went through a turbulent lineup shuffle before settling into the core that recorded their 2002 debut Tell All Your Friends, fronted by the instantly recognizable Adam Lazzara. The feud with Brand New, which started after Lacey left to form that band, became one of the most talked about dramas in emo history. Their real commercial breakthrough came with Louder Now in 2006, which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and produced the fan favourite MakeDamnSure. That record sold close to a million copies in the US alone. The band has stayed restless ever since, with John Nolan and Shaun Cooper returning to the fold in 2010 after years away with their side project Straylight Run. Their eighth studio album, 152, arrived in 2023, showing they still have plenty left to say.
