Tate McRae has a knack for turning emotional directness into pop that sticks. The Calgary born singer, songwriter and dancer built her early following through bedroom recordings on YouTube, and her 2020 single "You Broke Me First" broke her internationally, cracking the top ten in over a dozen countries. Her 2021 EP Too Young to Be Sad became the most streamed female EP of that year on Spotify, a remarkable milestone for someone still a teenager at the time. Since then she has moved steadily into bigger sonic territory. Her debut album I Used to Think I Could Fly peaked at number three in Canada, and 2023's Think Later pushed into full dance pop mode with the Billboard Global 200 chart topper "Greedy". Then came So Close to What in 2025, which hit number one on the US Billboard 200 and produced three international top ten hits including "Sports Car" and "Revolving Door". That same year she landed her first US number one as a featured artist on Morgan Wallen's "What I Want" and scored her first Grammy nomination for the soundtrack single "Just Keep Watching".
