Few debut albums hit as hard as Costello Music, the 2006 record that shot this Glasgow trio straight to number two on the UK Albums Chart and kept them there for eighty three weeks in the Top 100. The Fratellis, three unrelated guys performing under shared pseudonyms, rode singles like Chelsea Dagger and Whistle for the Choir into the UK top ten, won the BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act in 2007, and even opened for The Police on their reunion tour in North America. Over a million copies of Costello Music sold in the UK alone. After a hiatus that stretched a few years, the band came back and have kept releasing records, with Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied, In Your Own Sweet Time and Half Drunk Under a Full Moon all landing in the Scottish top five. Their sound sits comfortably in that garage rock and indie pop sweet spot, rough around the edges but built around hooks that stick around long after the song ends. Chelsea Dagger in particular has taken on a life of its own, popping up everywhere from sports arenas to TV screens.
