About
The Pink Stones are an alt country band from Athens, Georgia, led by Hunter Pinkston, a former punk who turned to writing country songs. Their second album, You Know Who, was his attempt to pull together everything he loves as both a listener and a player without it sounding scattered. On the surface it plays like proper country, with pedal steel, two step rhythms, twangy harmonies and lyrics about heartbreak and long days on the road. Then little detours into gospel, soul, psych and dub creep in, though the band's core sound never gets lost. They followed their 2021 debut, Introducing...The Pink Stones, with almost nonstop touring, which pushed the music in new directions and earned them a reputation for raw, unpredictable live shows. You Know Who squeezes cheerful two steppers, hard country rockers, a tender duet, a saloon stomper and some boogie into about 35 minutes. Fans of Poco and The Flying Burrito Brothers will feel at home.
