About
Also known as: The Saboteurs
Formed in Detroit in 2005, The Raconteurs brought together Jack White, Brendan Benson, and the rhythm section of the Greenhornes, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, for what the band insists is a genuine band of old friends rather than a calculated supergroup. Their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers hit number two in the UK and number seven in the US, earned Mojo's Album of the Year for 2006, and pulled Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance. It all started with a single song, 'Steady, As She Goes,' written by White and Benson in an attic one summer. Live, they have a reputation for covering a wide and eclectic range of material, from Cher era Sonny Bono to Bo Diddley to Dutch pop act Shocking Blue, and they have headlined festivals across Europe, Asia, and North America. Outside Australia, where a naming dispute with a Queensland band means they perform as The Saboteurs, they released their 2019 track 'Help Me Stranger' and have continued to show that their blend of blues rock, garage rock, and sharp pop instincts has plenty of life in it.
