Called the "godfather of modern rockabilly and psychobilly" by Prick magazine, Reverend Horton Heat is the Dallas trio built around guitarist and frontman Jim Heath, who has been ripping through a blend of rockabilly, country, surf, punk, and big band swing since the mid 1980s. Bassist Jimbo Wallace has been locking in that upright bass groove alongside Heath since 1989, giving the band a sound that feels both vintage and relentlessly live wire. Their reach goes well beyond the stage. Songs have turned up in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Guitar Hero II, Far Cry 5, The Sims 3, and a Mazda Miata TV spot, while "Psychobilly Freakout" earned repeat airings on Beavis and Butt Head. Their album Rev hit number 111 on the Billboard 200, their best chart position to date. They have shared stages and studio time with Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead and backed Jello Biafra, and their twelfth studio album Whole New Life arrived in 2018.
