Few bands blur the line between classic rock grandeur and hazy, kosmische drift quite like The War on Drugs. The Philadelphia outfit, built around songwriter and guitarist Adam Granduciel, has spent nearly two decades layering shimmering guitars, motorik rhythms, and road worn melodies into something that feels both timeless and distinctly theirs. Kurt Vile co founded the band and played on their 2008 debut Wagonwheel Blues, but left soon after to pursue his solo career, leaving Granduciel to steer the ship. The breakthrough came with Lost in the Dream in 2014, a record written through a period of real personal struggle for Granduciel, and it landed with critics and fans alike. Their 2017 follow up A Deeper Understanding, released on Atlantic Records, won the Grammy for Best Rock Album. The band kept the momentum going with I Don't Live Here Anymore in 2021, which features a collaboration with vocal group Lucius on the title track.
