About
Theocracy started as a one man project when Matt Smith of Athens, Georgia, wrote, played, and sang every part of the band's self titled debut in 2002. What began as a solo recording experiment eventually grew into a full band and a discography spanning five studio albums across two decades. Their sound sits at the crossroads of power metal and progressive metal with a firmly Christian lyrical foundation, and the 2008 record Mirror of Souls was the first to feature a proper lineup rather than Smith doing everything himself. Over the years the band has built a dedicated fanbase, toured Europe, and put out releases through Sweden's Ulterium Records before signing with Atomic Fire for their 2023 album Mosaic. They also have a long running tradition of releasing free Christmas songs each year for members of their fan club, covering everything from original compositions to surprisingly heavy takes on holiday classics.
