About
Trio Jakob is a piano trio made up of violinist Fiona Robertson, cellist Carla Peña, and pianist Carlos Marin Rayo. The ensemble builds programmes that span distinct periods and styles, bringing together works that sit comfortably apart in time and character. A typical programme might move from Shostakovich's early Trio Op. 8, which he wrote at sixteen as a dedication to his then love Tatjana Glivenko, through contemporary pieces such as Guix's Slowly... in mist, a short work inspired by three Japanese haiku by Issa Kobayashi, to Mendelssohn's towering Trio Op. 49, a piece widely credited with resetting the standards for the piano trio form by combining fierce virtuosity with deep lyricism.
