Few metalcore bands have had a career arc quite like Underoath's. Formed in Ocala, Florida in 1997, they built their biggest commercial moments around two albums, They're Only Chasing Safety and Define the Great Line, both of which went gold. Define the Great Line peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200, which remains their highest chart position. Their sound sits in a compelling space between melodic metalcore and heavier, more aggressive territory, with dual vocal dynamics between Spencer Chamberlain's screamed delivery and Aaron Gillespie's sung parts being a signature element. After disbanding in 2013 and reuniting in 2015 with Gillespie back in the fold, they returned with Erase Me in 2018, their first record together in a decade and the point where they publicly stepped away from their Christian identity. They kept going from there, releasing Voyeurist in January 2022 and their tenth studio album, The Place After This One, in March 2025.
