About
Varials are a metalcore outfit from Philadelphia whose sound pulls from beatdown hardcore, deathcore, and downtempo, giving them a distinctly heavy, punishing edge. Comparisons to Knocked Loose followed them early on, and that connection got literal when Knocked Loose vocalist Bryan Garris guested on their track "Empire of Dirt". Fellow Philly band Jesus Piece is another name often mentioned alongside them, with both acts seen as standouts in the current hardcore scene. After a run of EPs, they signed to Fearless Records and dropped their debut album Pain Again in 2017, produced by Josh Schroeder. Two more albums followed, In Darkness in 2019 and Scars for You to Remember in 2022. The band has gone through a few vocal changes over the years, with Skyler Conder, also known from Oklahoma heavy metalcore act CELL, stepping in as their latest frontman. Their influences are a bit all over the place in the best way, spanning the Acacia Strain, Slipknot, Big L, and even shoegaze.
