The Viano Quartet comes out of Los Angeles and has built a reputation for pairing technical precision with a real emotional intensity, all held together by a tight collective sound. They gravitate toward the expressive end of the string quartet repertoire, the kind of music that has some personal story behind it. Their programmes have featured Dvořák's Cypresses, a cycle coloured by unrequited longing, alongside Mendelssohn's Fourth String Quartet, a work he wrote in the glow after his honeymoon.
