Vive La Fete started in Ghent in 1997, when Els Pynoo and Danny Mommens began making music together, first as home recordings. What came out was a blend of electronics, new wave, guitars and French vocals, and it found listeners well beyond Belgium. Albums like République Populaire and Nuit Blanche pushed the band onto the international stage, and songs such as "Je Ne Veux Pas", "Touche Pas", "Maquillage" and "Noir Désir" have stayed live staples for years. Karl Lagerfeld noticed them, which led to gigs at Chanel events and fashion shows, and they have played across Europe as well as in Russia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil and other parts of Latin America. On stage, Els and Danny bring a full band, with synths and electronics locked in alongside drums, bass and guitar. Els sings in a voice that can go from cool and restrained to loud and direct, with Danny's guitar right beside her.
