About
Boston trio Vundabar built their name on a jangly, fuzzed out blend of indie rock, post punk and surf rock, and then their 2015 track "Alien Blues" took on a whole new life when it went viral on TikTok in 2021. The band, Brandon Hagen on vocals and guitar, Drew McDonald on drums, and Zack Abramo on bass, has been quietly stacking albums since their 2013 debut Antics, which was recorded in McDonald's bedroom and mixed on GarageBand. Each record has pushed the sound somewhere new: the gritty post punk crunch of Gawk, the piano and synth textures of Either Light, and the expansive Devil for the Fire in 2022. Their sixth album Surgery and Pleasure came out in March 2025 via Loma Vista Recordings, preceded by a run of singles including "Spades" and "Life is a Movie". Influences across the band range from Dick Dale and the Osees to Burial and Tame Impala, which goes some way to explaining why their sound never quite sits still.
