About
Four women, one city, and a sound that refuses to sit still. Los Angeles band Warpaint have spent two decades blending indie rock with dream pop, neo psychedelia and post punk into something genuinely their own: layered, hypnotic, and built on intertwining vocals from Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, and Jenny Lee Lindberg, anchored by Stella Mozgawa on drums. Their 2010 debut The Fool announced them as ones to watch, landing them a BBC Sound of 2011 nomination and slots at Glastonbury, Coachella, and the Hollywood Bowl. Their self titled 2014 follow up pushed things in a more minimalist direction, with keyboards, drum machines and ambient textures taking centre stage. Producer Flood handled most of the mixing, with Nigel Godrich stepping in for two tracks. Songs were often shaped at soundchecks and through onstage jamming, with R&B and rap cited as genuine influences alongside the band's art rock instincts. Their fourth album, Radiate Like This, arrived in 2022.
