About
White Denim pull from an almost absurdly wide pool of influences: dub, blues, punk, jazz, progressive rock, psychedelic rock and soul all end up in the blender, and somehow the Austin quartet makes it cohere. They built their reputation on intense looping, unusual song structures and a jam heavy approach rooted in home recording, which gave their early records a raw, freewheeling energy. By 2008 they were already picking up "Best New Band" at the Austin Music Awards and landing European deal with Full Time Hobby, the label that housed The Hold Steady. Over the following decade they put out a steady run of albums, from the scrappy debut Exposion through to the tighter, more polished Fits and D, and later the adventurous Performance in 2018, recorded at Radio Milk, the East Austin studio that frontman James Petralli and bassist Steve Terebecki founded themselves. Their song "Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)" even turned up in the reveal trailer for the Nintendo Switch in 2016, introducing the band to a whole new audience without them having to do a thing.
