About
Will Varley built his name the hard way: he toured his debut album on foot, and later walked almost 500 miles along England's south coast with a guitar on his back, playing 24 shows on the way. A songwriter from Kent who also works as a visual artist, he helped found the Smugglers Records collective and cut his teeth at open mic nights around London, sometimes playing a different one every night of the week. His 2015 album Postcards from Ursa Minor, released on Xtra Mile Recordings, brought the breakout song "Seize the Night", which has racked up close to 6 million Spotify streams. Since then he has supported Billy Bragg, Valerie June, Frank Turner and The Proclaimers, and headlined London's Union Chapel and Shepherd's Bush Empire. 2018's The Spirit of Minnie, made with a full band and producer Cameron McVey, had critics namechecking Springsteen and Dylan. Frank Turner has covered his songs, and his sixth album, The Hole Around My Head, arrived in 2021.
