Chuck Ragan is probably best known as the guitarist and co vocalist of Gainesville punk band Hot Water Music, but his solo work tells a different story. After the band went on hiatus in 2005, he pivoted toward acoustic folk and alt country, releasing five studio albums on Side One Dummy and, most recently, Rise Records. His 2024 record Love and Lore marks his first release on Rise, following a run of albums including Feast or Famine, Gold Country, and Till Midnight, the last of which brought in collaborators like Rami Jaffee of The Wallflowers and Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon. Beyond his own records, Ragan put serious energy into The Revival Tour, a collaborative acoustic touring concept he dreamed up in 2005 that brought together punk, bluegrass, and alt country artists in an intentionally raw, grassroots setting. Frank Turner, Laura Jane Grace, Brian Fallon, and Alkaline Trio's Dan Andriano were among those who joined over the years. He also scored the soundtrack for indie survival game The Flame in the Flood, and in 2012 published a book of tour stories called The Road Most Traveled.
