Yello built their reputation on a sound that nobody else was quite making: heavily rhythmic electronic music packed with unusual samples, nearly all of them recorded and engineered from scratch by Boris Blank, who has spent decades assembling a personal library of thousands of original sounds. Dieter Meier handles vocals and lyrics, and that distinctively dark voice is as much a Yello signature as the beats themselves. Their 1985 track "Oh Yeah" turned into a pop culture fixture after appearing in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Secret of My Success, while "The Race" from 1988 hit number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. Guest vocalists over the years have included Shirley Bassey, Stina Nordenstam, and FiFi Rong, and a 1995 tribute album called Hands on Yello brought remixes from Moby, Carl Craig, the Orb, and Carl Cox. The duo released their fourteenth studio album Point in 2020.
