Patronaat is one of the ten largest alternative pop music venues in the Netherlands, established in 1984 in a former gymnasium of a Catholic boys school in Haarlem. The current building, which opened in September 2005 following a major renovation, contains a main hall with capacity for 1,000, a smaller hall for 300, and a two storey café with a small stage for free concerts and DJ sets. The venue now organizes approximately 450 activities annually attracting around 135,000 visitors, programming across indie, rock, metal, jazz, electronic and other forms of pop music.
About Bintangs
Few Dutch bands have the staying power of the Bintangs. Formed in 1961 in Beverwijk as an indorock outfit, they quickly pivoted to a rougher rhythm and blues sound, partly inspired by The Rolling Stones and partly to stand apart from the crowd of bands copying The Shadows.
