About
Few Dutch bands have the staying power of the Bintangs. Formed in 1961 in Beverwijk as an indorock outfit, they quickly pivoted to a rougher rhythm and blues sound, partly inspired by The Rolling Stones and partly to stand apart from the crowd of bands copying The Shadows. By 1969 they had already opened for both The Rolling Stones and The Kinks, and their records 'Ridin' on the L & N' and 'Travelling in the U.S.A.' became their best known moments. Through countless lineup changes, bassist and vocalist Frank Kraaijeveld has been the one constant. The band took a break in the early eighties, said goodbye with a farewell show at Paradiso in Amsterdam in 1985, then reunited in 1989 for what turned out to be a remarkably stable 13 year run. In 2019 they were inducted into the Dutch Blues Hall of Fame, and in 2021 they marked their 60th anniversary with two concerts in Beverwijk and a new album, These Hands, which drew warm reviews for its familiar Bintangs sound.
