BigXthaPlug arrested in Texas on the anniversary of his previous arrest

American country rapper BigXthaPlug, whose real name is Xavier Landum, was arrested on Friday August 21 in Allen, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. The Allen Police Department pulled him over and subsequently had him booked into the Collin County Jail on three separate charges: driving under the influence, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The striking coincidence is that Landum was also arrested on that exact same date one year earlier, on August 21 2025, in Dallas on similar charges, namely marijuana possession and illegal firearm possession. At the time of his most recent arrest he was still out on bail for that earlier case. On top of that, he had previously been arrested in Arlington, Texas in February 2025 on a marijuana possession charge.

The arrest had immediate consequences for his shows. Landum was scheduled to perform that Friday evening at the Country Rising Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His arrest meant he could not make it to that show. The festival organizers posted on Instagram that BigXthaPlug would not be performing due to a "personal emergency," without going into further detail. In a separate statement on X they acknowledged understanding the "disappointment and frustration" of attendees who were there. The Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club, which hosts the festival grounds, distanced itself from the situation by emphasizing that it only serves as the venue and bears no responsibility for programming, artist bookings, or scheduling.

Whether BigXthaPlug would make it to his performance the following day at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand in Des Moines was unclear. Organizers there told local broadcaster KCCI that they had been in contact with his agent and had been told he would show up. Landum himself posted an Instagram Story shortly before his scheduled slot telling fans he was on his way, and later a post appeared featuring a thumbnail of his mugshot alongside a snippet of a new track as a teaser for an upcoming album. According to reporting by The Des Moines Register, however, he had not yet been released as of Saturday morning.

The 28 year old Dallas rapper broke through in 2023 with the tracks Texas and Mmhmm, both taken from his debut album Amar. Notably, he wrote that album while in solitary confinement on illegal weapon and marijuana possession charges in 2022. His third and most recent album, I Hope You're Happy, debuted in the top two of both the Top Rap Albums and Top Country Albums charts. Last September he reached number one on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart with the track All the Way, a collaboration with Bailey Zimmerman, marking his first number one on that list. Earlier in 2025 he performed at the Wireless Festival, shortly before the release of that third album.
