In the murder for hire case against Lil Durk, nine people testified for the defense on Thursday, after which both sides rested their case.

The trial of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, is approaching its conclusion. On Thursday, September 3, the defense presented nine witnesses in a single day, after which both the prosecution and the defense rested their cases. The judge ruled that the jury will return on Tuesday, September 8 for closing arguments. Durk is on trial alongside co defendants OTF DeDe, also known as Deandre Wilson, and OTF BrownEyez, also known as David Lindsey. None of the three will testify on their own behalf.
Banks is accused of orchestrating a murder for hire conspiracy targeting rival rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. According to prosecutors, this was retaliation for the death of King Von, Banks' close friend and musical protégé who was killed in 2020. On August 19, 2022, a group of members from Banks' collective Only The Family, known as OTF, allegedly opened fire on Bowman's vehicle at a gas station near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. Bowman survived the attack, but his cousin Saviay'a Robinson, known as Lul Pab, died.
One of the prosecution's key witnesses, Kasey Hester known as OTF Jam, gave damaging testimony last week. Hester, who admitted to being present as one of the shooters, testified that he was driving with his wife when Anthony Jones, also known as OTF Boonie Mo, called with instructions to head to the airport for an urgent trip to California. Hester claimed he had the call on speakerphone and could hear Banks in the background directing the trip. On Thursday, his wife Lashawntay Hester completely disputed this account. She testified that the phone call he described never happened and that she never heard Banks' voice. Under cross examination by assistant district attorney Michael Morse, she revealed that she had reached out to the defense herself the previous week after her name came up in the case. Briana Dangerfield, Hester's ex girlfriend, also testified for the defense and described him as unreliable and manipulative. Her credibility took a hit during cross examination, however, after prosecutors confronted her with a 2016 forgery arrest and a separate theft incident, given that she had told the jury she had never had any run ins with law enforcement.
The defense also called Shekema Springfield, a former U.S. Army officer who had a relationship with King Von and shares a son with him. She was called to counter the testimony of another key prosecution witness, Kavon Grant also known as OTF Vonnie, who claimed he was working as Banks' personal assistant when the attack was set in motion. Grant described how Banks instructed him to arrange a stolen vehicle and how associates flew from Chicago to San Diego rather than Los Angeles to avoid detection. Grant further testified that after the shooting he drove the shooters to an In N Out restaurant, then took an Uber to Banks' rental house in Encino, where Banks allegedly asked him whether they had gotten him. Grant described the attack itself as sloppy and rushed.
The jury was also shown video footage of Lil Durk's arrest by the FBI on Thursday. FBI agent Conor Goepel was part of the arrest team that intercepted a flight Durk was taking from Miami to Dubai on October 24, 2024. Defense attorney Christy O'Connor challenged Goepel's suggestion during cross examination that Durk had been attempting to flee the country. Additional witnesses included Kevin Freeman from Durk's nonprofit organization Neighborhood Heroes and Sanchay Jain, senior vice president of marketing at Alamo Records.
