Miley, who has dropped her last name Cyrus, is releasing her tenth studio album on September 18 through Atlantic Records, with the title track serving as a first taste of what's to come.

Miley has officially dropped the Cyrus surname and at the same time released her new single "Bass Persuades," the title track of her upcoming tenth studio album. The album arrives on September 18 via Atlantic Records, her new home. It is her first major project with that label, and every time she has switched labels in the past it has produced a number one hit: "Wrecking Ball" with her RCA debut Bangerz and "Flowers" with her Columbia debut Endless Summer Vacation.
The accompanying music video, directed by Mert Alas, shows Miley transforming a New York poker club into a dance venue. The song is built on a throbbing eighties synth and a danceable pop meets rock production that calls to mind Madonna, Britney Spears during her Blackout era, and the British new wave of acts such as Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, and New Order. The spoken first verses, in which Miley sings in an almost deadpan style, also bring to mind the approach Lady Gaga took on "Poker Face."
Thematically, "Bass Persuades" is about a generation that seems to have lost the joy of dancing. "The kids don't wanna dance," Miley repeats in the chorus, followed by the call: "We can't stay like this forever, let's surrender to the night, put our bodies close together." In the first verse she sings about fentanyl contaminating candy, and in the second verse about young people glued to their phone screens who missed the MTV era entirely. The tone is both concerned and inviting.
About the album, Miley wrote in a statement: "My 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, is yours September 18th. Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That's what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album." It follows Something Beautiful, her more alternative leaning record from last year, which featured contributions from a host of indie musicians.
The release is accompanied by two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, on October 16 and 18. Support comes from Model/Actriz. Miley described the venue as "my favourite place to experience music and see my favourite artists." General ticket sales open on September 10 at 10 a.m. local time, preceded by an American Express presale on September 8 and an artist presale on September 9. Miley has previously stated that she has no desire to do extensive tours because of the impact on her mental wellbeing, which makes these two shows all the more notable.
Technically speaking, "Bass Persuades" is Miley's second new song of 2026: she had already released "Younger You" as Hannah Montana for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. On a personal level, she has also been through a difficult period recently, as her godmother Dolly Parton passed away at the age of eighty. In a personal tribute, Miley wrote: "What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have."
